Children are my heroes...

No wonder Jesus said that you must be like a child to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Just look at them, they are astoundingly brilliant.

In Stress Management class tonight we were discussing "the window of trust" in the early years of a child's life and when they learn that they can trust their parents to meet their needs and feel secure or not.

After spending the holiday weekend with my 3-year-old niece, Lindsey, I came away just amazed at a child's capacity to love.

Some of my favorite moments with her that weekend:

Lindsey and I snuggled on her bed one night and read her favorite books about caterpillars together. Of course, she had like all the words memorized and could fill in the blanks for me.

We played tea party wearing Mardi Gras beads and princess dresses in her "castle". She "baked" me Strawberry Shortcake which she informed me was "a special treat that we can only eat on special days" and we drank blueberry tea, because berries are her favorite. But we couldn't partake before we told God thank you for the food.

Reasons why Lindsey is my hero:
1. She eats marshmallows with a fork
2. She owns as many pairs of flip flops as I do
3. We look remarkably alike :)
4. She has a gift of making friends with anyone within a 10 ft radius in a store
5. She wanted to ski with pink skis
6. Within 10 minutes of learning to ski, she was begging to go on the lift already.
7. We call each other silly goose and she totally rocks at the funny face game.
8. She sings the "Baby Bumblebee" with her whole heart.
9. She made such a cute bunny rabbit at Halloween that is was almost criminal.
10. She plays pink drums.
